Sarah Cancienne, AIA, is an architect with Waggonner & Ball whose work combines a strong design sensibility with experience delivering complex projects across a range of scales and building types. Her background spans mixed-use, multifamily, hospitality, commercial, and renovation projects, with experience carrying design ideas from early concepts through documentation and construction.
Before joining Waggonner & Ball, Sarah worked with architecture practices in New Orleans, Raleigh, Philadelphia, and New York. Her project experience includes large-scale mixed-use developments and high-rise hospitality and residential projects, as well as the renovation and adaptation of buildings in New Orleans. Across this work, she has developed a particular interest in how material, detail, and spatial experience contribute to the character of a place.
Sarah’s architectural practice is closely connected to her work as a visual artist. She has maintained an active painting practice throughout her career and has been represented by Ann Connelly Fine Art Gallery in Baton Rouge since 2007. Her work has been featured in solo and group exhibitions in Louisiana and New York, reflecting a continued exploration of composition, color, and form that also informs her approach to design.
